For the Mayflower 400 commemorations UP and WYG engaged widely with residents of Plymouth to design 3 themed interpretation trails for the city centre, telling the story of Plymouth’s development. The routes include the Mayflower Trail to the east around the historic Barbican beside Sutton Harbour, the Waterfront Trail south along Plymouth Hoe facing The Sound, and the City Trail to the north through Sir Patrick Abercrombie’s post-war urban design.

The trails are both physical and digital. Upright bronze totems at key locations are complemented by in-ground waymarkers between, and a free app enables ‘then and now’ images of the city to be overlaid.
