Untitled Practice is an integrated landscape and architecture design office working across the fields of the built environment. Our work is relational and inclusive, founded in a belief that city, society and environment are best served by objective and empathic design approaches, which can empower and enable the human experience, connecting people with place.

Fenella Griffin CMLI, Founding Partner

Fenella is a landscape architect concerned with landscape infrastructural systems from macro to micro scales, committed to delivering climate and social justice through the work of Untitled Practice. She has been an educator throughout her career and holds various design advisory roles. Fenella is creatively and technically involved in all UP work, and has led key projects including the Aga Khan Centre roof gardens, Guy’s & St Thomas’ green wall, The Gardenway, Wandle Vistas, and most recently 6 coordinated projects for Andover.

Murray Smith RIBA, Founding Partner

Murray is an experienced architect who has always been interested in the space between buildings. His diploma dissertation was about the landscape narratives of Richard Serra’s installations and the songlines of aboriginal Australia. He is involved across the breadth of Untitled Practice’s work, focussed on design and implementation, having led award-winning projects including Sidcup High Street, Lesnes to Crossness, and Valley Gardens. Murray is also a design advisor outside of UP.

Jessica Edwards, Architectural Assistant

Jess has a sensitive design approach and great attention to detail, contributing to UP’s team developing, coordinating and managing project design information. She is a graduate of London Met (LMU) with previous experience on sustainable community projects in Romania, India and Australia. She has worked with UP since 2013 during which time she has worked on projects including Lesnes to Crossness, Valley Gardens, Kingsbury & Market Square, and Kingsway to the Sea.

Jennifer Smith, Architectural Assistant

Jenny is a graduate of the Masters in Architecture and Urban Design (MAUD) course at Cambridge University. Her MPhil thesis concentrated on the challenges of high street renewal and community empowerment. Prior to joining UP in 2021 she had work experience at Studio Egret West. Jenny is academically and technically able, and has worked with UP on research and design for The Gardenway, Rainham Riverside, Andover, and Quantocks projects.

Nicola Ida, Landscape Assistant

Nikki has retrained from an earlier career in silversmithing, metalwork and jewellery (MA RCA) towards landscape architecture through the MLA course at University of Greenwich. During her time there she won a Wilderness Deer Park competition for the Royal Parks. “Untitled Practice is a wonderfully refreshing anomaly within architecture. The founders, Nel & Murray, are the kind of super-thoughtful people that society needs right now – intelligent and talented yet humble souls intent on doing the right thing for the long run, with grace, elegance and optimism.” Peter Kirby, Artist, Creative, Educator → Higher Newham
“Many of our funding opportunities require a combination of skills on many fronts, and Untitled Practice were key to the success of the project, injecting both creative thinking and practical solutions into the delivery process. The project exceeds its goals, and made a demonstrable difference to the economy and environment of the high street in Sidcup.” Matthew Turner, Senior Project Officer, GLA → Sidcup High Street
“It’s been great to work with Untitled Practice during this fantastic project to transform Valley Gardens. Their landscape expertise has helped to build a space which can be enjoyed by our residents and visitors for years to come.” Tracy Beverley, Senior Project Manager, Transport Projects & Engineering Team, BHCC → Valley Gardens
