Untitled Practice secured funding for Bread and Bean café to be refurbished under a shop front improvement programme funded by London Borough of Islington along the strategic Junction Road in the St John’s Grove Conservation Area. The café took over neglected premises on a prominent corner facing Archway, making it ideal as the programme’s starter project.

Initially, ideas for a contemporary ‘green’ frontage were explored, with a planted fascia to be supplied by rainwater harvested from the building roofs.

However research established the premises' original related use and the opportunity to re-instate the historic double frontage was strongly supported through local consultation and by LB Islington. The handsome traditional timber shop front architecture is complemented with a fresh contemporary graphic design identity.
